Why Volunteer at the
UP House
1 in 5 foster youth will become homeless the day they age out of care. Around 20,000 young people age out every year.
Fewer than 3% will earn a college degree in their lifetime.
70% of girls who age out of foster care will become pregnant before age 21.
60% of sex trafficking victims come from foster care or group homes.
Half will struggle with substance dependence.
1 in 5 will experience incarceration between ages 17 and 21.
These are not just statistics. They represent real young people who need guidance, stability, and someone who shows up for them.
That’s where you come in.
By volunteering with the UP House, you can:
- Provide mentorship and encouragement
- Help build life skills and confidence
- Create a sense of stability and belonging
- Be a consistent, positive presence in someone’s life
Even a small investment of your time can make a lasting difference.
Young people aging out of foster care often enter adulthood without the support most of us rely on. No safety net. No consistent guidance. No one in their corner.
At UP House, we can provide programs and resources but what truly changes lives is people. Volunteers bring consistency, encouragement, and real connection. The kind that can’t be replaced by funding alone.
That’s where you come in.
We need you because:
- Many of our youth have never had a reliable adult they can trust
- Life skills like budgeting, job readiness, and communication need to be taught and practiced
- Confidence grows through relationships, not just programs
- A single positive connection can shift the direction of someone’s life
